One of the more common conditions that my patients have is Dry Eye Syndrome or DES for short. These symptoms can be as mild as occasional scratchy eyes or as severe as corneal break down and loss of vision. Most patients fall somewhere in between. While the specific causes of DES are not well known, we do know that age, auto-imune disease, allergy, sex (DES is much more common in women), menopause and other factors can create DES alone or in combination.
Rather than recreate the wheel, I’m going to share a link to a great resource about DES, the blog of Dr.O’Dell. There is also a great Dry Eye Quiz that helps patients determine their relative Dry Eye Symptom level. You can find that quiz here.
